WU-TANG TOUR

Ghostface Killah hinted at it when he toured Australia solo earlier in the year, but I can now officially reveal that the remaining members of the Wu-Tang Clan have been billed to play at the Megarampage festival in Melbourne on Halloween, Saturday 31 October. Reread that it your head just exploded. The point of contention lies in the absence of a Sydney show; surely Wu-Tang can’t ignore us, can they? Or is this another let down waiting to happen. I can live in hope but until I see them walk on stage I have my doubts.

ELEFANT TRAKS 10th ANNIVERSARY DVD

I realize i have slept on this but late is better than never. This DVD was filmed at the Forum in Sydney late last year & it was a doozy of a night. Not only does it showcase the fine Elefant Traks roster but it also fills in some serious black spots i have of the night. The DVD features performances from The Herd, Hermitude, The Tongue, Horrorshow, Urthboy, Astronomy Class and Unkle Ho. Large up Elefant Traks.

Anthony Lister Mural

Lister goes turbo large with one of the nicest murals i’ve seen put up in a while (277 Parramatta Rd). Lister takes over this billboard with a cherry picker. Ohhh the things you could paint with a cherry picker. Look for more Lister news as he gets set to open a show at New Image Art in September. I was lucky enough to peep some of the pieces he has been working on & as always they are something special.

GULLY PLATOON

Obese Records boss is back from a self-imposed recording hiatus & has brought a personal favorite, Dialectrix & and former Down Under Beats Crew member, Joe New along for the gully ride. This three-pronged attack from three of Australian hip hop’s most formidable talents is unafraid to venture into different musical realms & break rank on the orthodox & formulated landscape of Australian releases. With production duties handled by Plutonic Lab, Jase and J.Square & all underlined by the surgically precision of DJ 2buck this release is a must have. Run out & cop it asap.

MAY’S PRESENTS MISTERY

Sydney-based graffiti artist Mistery has been a practicing graffiti writer since 1983. Typical of his generation he was involved in all elements of early hip-hop; dance, graffiti, and music. Mistery's commitment to hip-hop and graffiti has been consistent since then.

"He (Mistery) was really behind the resurgence of breaking culture...He sets a really good example for young people ... leading by example... you can make something of yourself - you can be anything you want to be" - Maya Jupiter (ABC Compass, 2006)

Mistery is a long-serving hip-hop artist, dedicated community worker and exception Graffiti talent. He is one of Australia's most renowned Graffiti Writers and a crucial member of the internationally recognised Graffiti Crews Bounty Hunterz, 21st Century, DCA and more recently Krosswerdz. His graffiti is reflective of the "hip-hop" style that was born in New York in the 1970's but he is quick to acknowledge Australia's own place in the historical Graffiti landscape.

"Australia has one of the oldest histories in wall painting - with the indigenous Australians having work dating back many thousands of years and from this we learn much of their history. In fact archeologists have learned a great deal by study of a country's Graffiti - I wonder what their conclusion would be if they discovered us (the work of Australian Graffiti Artists) thousands years down the track?" - Mistery, 2008

Mistery and his crew will be painting in May Lane from Tuesday August 25 until the launch on Friday August 28, 6-8pm.

OPENING: 6-8PM FRIDAY AUGUST 28, 2009
MAY LANE, ST PETERS (next to St.Peters Train Station)
