DRAPHT - REPUNZEL
Video for the new Drapht single "Rapunzel" off the forthcoming album "The Life of Riley" out early 2011. Once again its produced by Trigger Trials from the Funkoars & he is releasing it independently. Drapht follows in the footsteps of veteran label mates Downsyde, The Funkoars and the Hilltop Hoods, all of whom in 2008, embarked on an unprecedented and unceremonious exodus from Obese Records. Given his success he will probably be signing to a major label, or with the Hilltop Hoods’ Golden Era Records, who, in recent times have snapped up ex-Obese alumni The Funkoars and Vents.

In celebration of Veterans Day recently, Rick Ross has dropped the aptly-titled “Veterans Day,” featuring the recently-freed Lil Wayne and his daddy Birdman. It was directed by Maybach Music’s in-house videographer Spiff TV. For anyone curious and into their beats the sample is from War’s “Slippin’ Into Darkness”.

TED PRIZE WINNER - JR
JR is an anonymous photographer and artist. In his work, he embeds into neighborhoods, favelas and villages around the world, photographing the people who live there and learning their stories — and then pasting his striking images onto massive local canvases: buildings, buses, roads and bridges. A very fitting recipient indeed.

KANYE WEST - RUNAWAY
Kanye West brings his vision to life in his highly-anticipated short film Runaway. The 35-minute visuals were directed by West, written by Hype Williams, and art directed by Vanessa Beecroft. Filmed in Prague, the soundtrack features songs from the rapper’s fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, including “Devil in a New Dress,” “POWER,” “All of the Lights” with Rihanna, “Lost in the World,” and the title track “Runaway.”
Described as “a tale of loss and renewal,” the ambitious story stars Kanye as Griffin and supermodel Selita Ebanks as The Phoenix, who crashes down to Earth and falls in love with her rescuer. Nicki Minaj narrates the beginning of the film in her British accent.

The second instalment of Pastemodernism is tomorrow (Thursday) & features a massive list of local and international paste-up artists who have transformed the excellent Lo-Fi collective into something that is normally only ever seen on the streets. From haind painted colour to black and white photocopies, from screenprints to large scale drawings - the only restriction is that the work must be on paper and must be able to be wheat-pasted to the walls of the gallery.
Lo-Fi Collective, 383 Bourke St, Darlinghurst, Sydney. (above Kinsellas on Taylor Square). Check the article about Paste Modernism part 1 here & just think bigger & better.

THE TONGUE - ALTERNATIVE ENERGY
The Tongue's style has an elegant complexity, dispatching pop culture references with acerbic wit, speaking straight to true hip hop heads but connecting with the casual listener. Bold enough to carry a flashy bravado but wise enough to temper it with sincerity. The Tongue has always promised much; his versatility as a freestyle MC is deservedly celebrated: he's a very likeable frontman with a natural live presence. Alternative Energy is the album that captures The Tongue's thirst for life's curiosities and the vibrancy of his personality. Production comes courtesy of some of Australia's best: Elgusto, M-Phazes, Dizz-1 and others have created a crisp and contemporary backdrop that moves haphazardly through bright and menacing moods. The Tongue talks of love and frustration; politics and bullshit; coming up and down in a city of sin.
