Fiber Optic LED Glove Puts Light At Your Fingertips

It’s a shame what happened to glowsticks. What was once a useful hand-held lighting device has since been ruined by generations of raver douchebags who twirl them like batons. Luckily, it looks like flashlight technology might be taking another step forward with this Fiber Optic Glove concept.

Created by Slovenian designer Tilen Sepic for DesignBoom’s Bright LED competition, the power of the gloves starts at the wrist, where a battery pack and LED light source are hidden. Vein-like fiber optic wires then bring the light up the hand to the index finger and thumb. With the touch of a button, your palm will glow a bright white light, or emit a beam from the finger tip. Tantisassi Candy-Looking Sofa

Designed by Matteo Thun for Italian furniture maker Rossi di Albizzate, the Tantisassi looks more like a bowl of M&M’s than your standard sofa. On the sofa, strategically positioned polyurethane-foam cushions cover the steel frame and come in removable elasticized wool covers. Peugeot 888 future car

The Peugeot 888 is billed as the "personal vehicle for the future Metropolis." For designer Oskar Johansen from Norway, that means a car with space for two with room for luggage, as well as a nifty shape-shifting body. On the highway, the Peugeot 888 stretches itself out flat so that it's stable and aerodynamic. In the city, however, it scrunches up for easier parking and taking up less of the road in general.

Mad water gun (fire extinguisher)

The Shooter is a conceptual fire extinguisher thought up by designers Eunjung Kim, Yangwoo Kim and Junyi Heo. It makes putting out a fire as easy as aiming and pulling the trigger, which will send a cannon round full of CO² at the blaze. If that doesn't put it out, just keep firing — you've got eight shells in there. The idea is that it's far easier to use than your average fire extinguisher, it's able to be reloaded and keeps you away from the blaze. It's got a laser sight (which probably won't help out too much in the event of a large fire), as well as an alarm to warn everyone around you. So it is basically the best prank toy ever.

Well, we've seen London's 100,000 person tower concept, and Japan's 1,000,000 person pyramid of doom, and now, unsurprisingly, Dubai wants in on the action. Dubai-based architecture firm Timelinks has developed plans for a million person ziggurat. What the hell's a ziggurat? "A ziggurat was a temple tower of the ancient Mesopotamian valley and Iran, having the form of a terraced pyramid of successively receding stories or levels. Some modern buildings with a step pyramid shape have also been termed ziggurats."

Shepard Fairey To Mount First Solo Museum Exhibition at ICA Boston

Shepard Fairey is no doubt one of the biggest names in street art. His "Andre the Giant" stencil one of the more famous guerrilla art pieces in recent memory. From February 6 to April 19, 2009, the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston will exhibit "Shepard Fairey: Supply and Demand." For years he's supplied the world with countless pieces, and commercial product with Obey, boosting his demand in the art world. That has yielded this show, his first solo museum exhibition.

The ICA has a commitment to street art, and is currently showing Street Level, which closes in mid-October.

Nike Air Wildwood ACG And Air Max Terra Ninety

Just last week we reported about some exciting new styles to come from the Nike ACG department. Fuctard in Japan now got in the Nike Air Wildwood ACG and the Air Max Terra Ninety.

Both sneakers come with a black base, and feature blue and neon yellow accents. The Air Max Terra Ninety is a fusion of the Air Max 90 and the Terra Humara, with an added full air sole.

Schimmel’s K 208 Pegasus Oval Art Grand Piano

Designed by eccentric German designer and aerodynamics expert, Professor Luigi Colani, the K 208 Pegasus manages to “free the grand piano of its traditional form” and still produce superior quality sound when played. Professor Colani, who commutes between Tokyo, Los Angeles, Berlin and Paris, is at war with all corners and edges. So he paired up with renowned German piano maker, Schimmel Pianos, to create the futuristic K 208 Pegasus in his favorite shape, the oval.

On the piano well-thought-out details maximize comfort, like an extendable, integrated piano stool and an electrically-driven lift mechanism that silently raises or lowers the top.

So how much does the Schimmel K 208 Pegasus cost? While we were unable to obtain exact pricing, we do know that Miami’s Delano Hotel recently dropped $200k on a Lucite piano from the same Schimmel Art Collection for its Lenny Kravitz-designed lounge, the Florida Room. The Florida Room’s Schimmel is a replica of the piano Kravitz keeps in his own house.

Designed by Jean Louis Frechin of France, the speaker shelf is described as “a shelf connected to a computer that doubles as a device for audio diffusion and archiving digital music files (MP3).” Don’t ask us to translate that.
